quad or not to quad

Post  john volts(admin) on Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:36 am

when the austin allegro was being developed there was an opition to do it with quad lights which were later dropped, but would it of made a differences to sales if they had fitted them?
In my opinion the quad lights would of made them sell better, in fact the later series 3 had quad lights but they weren't like original designed ones here in this picture

I've seen photographs of the few quad-light Allegros that left the factory, and I think it's helps. Those rectangular lamps are part of what made the car look so dumpy from the front - despite the fact that it was actually quite a curvaceous car. Those quad lamps in your photograph make it look sort of like a Ford Consul Classic from the 1950's.

Still, quad lamps seemed to be the way forward in the 1970's, with the Capri, earliest models of the Scirocco, and the early Quattros (trust me, it doesn't look like it, but they had quad square lamps) all recieving quads on the front.

So, yes. I think the quads would have helped it - although round lamps and a square steering wheel might be a confusing combination.
