Looks pretty mint for a 35 year old car.. As you say simple engine swap & hey presto - show condition car......

Approx 60 miles from me. Hmmmm.

Must have been a reasonably simple fix, the previous owner didn't seem to have a clue, but then again, they never do, do they Evil or Very Mad

I saw a proper mint VdP in Northern Ireland last year I think on Ebay, and they wanted £2,500, no bidders, and I'd say it was in much better nick, with IIRC about 45k on the clock - it was basically like brand new, so can't see this one achieving more than £2k, although I will be pleased if it does of course Very Happy

going to do a bit of work on the brakes tomorrow on mine, too much squeeking going on for comfort, let you know how it goes, with pics of the carpeting hopefully Very Happy

Cheers,
Jim

Just thought, this might be the same car that was in Ireland, now that would make me a prize plonker Embarassed

However, I recall it was a darker metallic blue, same as the one I had twenty odd years ago, and I'm sure it had half the mileage, so I think I'm right Rolling Eyes

Age, it's a bummer Laughing

Jim

It's back on the bay......

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vanden-plas-1500-mot-tax-auto-tahiti-blue-realy-lovely-car-/281050374717?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item416fe8623d

It's now in Spalding, Lincolnshire so been moved. Price has jumped although it's still not fixed. Seems this owner has no idea how to fix it either, I fail to see how autobox problem would prevent starting the engine. If it's dropped valve as suggested - simple compression test would confirm this although it seems this has not been done. It's more likely to be starter inhibitor problem, probably needs adjusting or new electrical switch - easy!! Very Happy

Jamie, sent you message re: oil caps, i'm still waiting to hear back from the chap.

Jim, I have found a boot carpet - thanks to my dads cave of spares, unless you've made one up already!!

No progress this week - worked full 7 days, didn't pass go, no spare time!! No

Cheers. Andy.
